I love doing anything that involves a challenge and an adventure so I was pretty excited.
The shop owner demanded that we wear wet suits which I thought was absolutely ridiculous because you never get really wet in a kayak. The wet suit was damp with water from the previous suit wearer which was incredibly uncomfortable. It was also a size too big so I was swimming (ha.. pun intended) in this suit. To add to the embarrassment, I had to walk from the changing room in my wet suit through an outdoor restaurant/bar to get back to the dock.
We finally got into the kayak and it was wonderful. The water was pretty choppy compared to what I'm used to but that's because large boats were passing by us and creating waves.
The two boys we went with paddled quickly and soon we lost sight of them. After we arrived back at the dock, we realized the boys hadn't yet returned which was exciting for us because we slaved at finishing the course.
Turns out that the guys were towed almost the entire way by a larger boat and were given beer and food...... the only thing I can say is that we got a better workout.
